Chapter 5 - Strangers Like Me

"___, for once, could you please listen to Berwald." Tino asked. He didn't sound confident in Berwald's choice, but he just wanted to do what was best to protect all of you. You paused for a moment, before looking to Tino.

"Why didn't you tell me you knew there were other creatures that looked like me?" You asked, frowning a bit. Tino opened his mouth to answer, but closed it and sighed. You sigh, too, turning away and heading back to the camp.

~

You climbed through the trees and watched from above as Antonio explained his experience with you to Lovino, who seemed sort of interested and Basch, who wasn't paying attention and was instead polishing his gun.

"..Well, she didn't stand upright. She sort of crouched, like that. And she supported her weight on her knuckles." Antonio demonstrated and you had to stifle a laugh. He stood up and smiled. "Exactly like a gorilla!"

"Seems too good to be true..." Lovino mumbled, watching Antonio boredly.

"It was amazing!" Antonio cheered, before walking over to a blackboard and picking up some chalk. He carefully began to draw a picture of what seemed to be... You! You felt your cheeks heat up, as he detailed you out. "She'd bend her elbows out, like this, and then she walks, like this."

"Wow, Antonio. You discovered a girl with no language, no human behavior-"

"Now that isn't true. She knows enough English and she does act pretty human for where she grew up." Antonio paused for a moment. "But she didn't have that many personal boundaries..."

"What do you mean?" Lovino raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, well..." Antonio laughed nervously, a blush appearing on his cheeks. He returned to the blackboard and began sketching out your face. "She seemed confused at first, as if she'd never seen another human before. Her eyes were intense and focused and...I've never seen such eyes."

He paused staring at your picture for a moment. Lovino scoffed, before grinning.

"Should I leave you and the blackboard alone for a moment?" Antonio became bright red at Lovino's comment.

"I don't know what you're talking about, Lovino?!" Antonio laughed nervously, looking away. "The point is, think of what we could learn from her. We need to find her."

"Professor! You're here to find gorillas, not indulge some romantic fantasy." Basch scoffed, standing up. You frowned, beginning to lower yourself down.

"Fantasy? I didn't imagine her! ___ is..." You dropped down in front of Basch, startling him. Antonio smiled as soon as you appeared, and gestured over to you. "Is real!"

"That's ___?!" Lovino exclaimed, looking you over. Basch picked up his gun and quickly aimed it at you.

"Lovino, Antonio, stand back!" Basch cocked his gun and put his finger to the trigger. Your eyes widened, as Antonio ran over.

"No!" Antonio pushed the gun up, making the bullet narrowly miss you and launch into the trees above.

"Basch!" You gasped, stepping back.

"Have we met? How does she know my name?" Basch looked from you to Antonio.

"She thinks it means the sound of a gunshot." Antonio explained, getting between you and Basch. He turned to you and smiled.

"Hey, Antonio..." You waved a bit, glancing back at Basch a bit.

"Hola, ___." Antonio greeted back. Lovino came over and looked you over.

"Moves like an ape but looks like a girl. She could be the missing link." You scowled a bit at his comment, as a smile lit up on Basch's face.

"Or our link to the gorillas." Basch added.

"Oh, yeah. That helps, too." Lovino sweatdropped a bit.

"Where are the gorillas?" Basch approached you, gun still in hand. You backed up a but, hiding behind Antonio. Basch sighed in frustration when you didn't answer, grabbing your wrist and pulling you forward. "GORILLAS!"

"Shouting won't help, Mister Zwingli." Antonio pulled you out of Basch's grip. "She might not understand you or is too afraid to answer since you're forcing her."

"Well then I'll make her understand." Basch grabbed some chalk and erased Antonio's drawing, beginning to draw a picture of a gorilla. Though this one looked more menacing than any gorilla you knew. He tapped it and looked to you. "Gorilla."

"Gorilla." You said, picking up some chalk.

"Looks like she understands." Lovino commented. They all paused to look at you, to find you drawing some pictures on the blackboard. "Forget what I just said."

"No!" Basch grabbed the chalk out of your hand and held it above his head. You reached out for it, but found he was much taller than you. You sighed, giving up, just as Antonio snatched the chalk away from Basch.

"Mister Zwingli, I think I'll take it from here." Basch frowned, as Antonio looked to you with a smile. You smiled back, as Antonio took your hand and began to lead you through the camp.

~

Antonio brought you into one of the tents and with Lovino's help, he set up a projector. The pictures he showed you were presented with just a flame and a projector and you were curious on how it worked. Antonio began to go through pictures, showing you how his life style at home is like.

~Whatever you do, I'll do it too. Show me everything and tell me how. It all means something, and yet nothing to me. I can see there's so much to learn.~

Suddenly a picture of a couple dancing was pulled up and you heard Antonio sigh softly. You hesitated, before taking his hand and making him dance around with you. He laughed, as he slowly began to lead you in a dance. Your heart fluttered a little, when you saw him smile at you gently.

~It's all so close and yet so far. I see myself as people see me. I just know there's something bigger out there. I wanna know, can you show me.~

When it became dark, Antonio took you outside with a telescope. He set it up and began to point out different constellations and planets in the sky. You looked through the telescope and was amazed at all the different things you could see. You even caught sight of a comet.

~I wanna know about these strangers like me. Tell me more, please show me. Something's familiar about these strangers like me. Every gesture, every move that she makes, makes me feel like never before.~

The next day, Basch forced you to look at a map of the jungle. He pointed at different areas of the map asking if that's where the gorilla were, but you weren't paying attention. You were busy looking at Antonio. Your eyes met a few times and you both would look away shyly. He didn't know, but you saw him staring at you as much as you did him. You found it cute.

~Why do I have this growing need to be beside her? These emotions I never knew of some other world far beyond this place. Beyond the trees, above the clouds. I see before me a new horizon.~

As the days past by, Tino, Jxk, almost everyone became curious of your daily absence. Tino began to become concerned, but you knew how he would react if he found out you were interacting with the strangers. You glanced back at your family once more, before racing down the mountain, excited to see Antonio, again.

~I wanna know, can you show me. I wanna know about these strangers like me. Tell me more, please show me. Something's familiar about these strangers like me.~

You met up with Antonio, again, and found him drawing a picture of a bird he found. You walked over and he smiled at your presence, showing you his half finished picture. The movement startled the bird, causing it to fly away and Antonio frowned, figuring he couldn't finish the picture. You paused, thinking for a moment, before smiling and looking to Antonio. You knew how you could help him.

~Come with me now to see my world, where there's beauty beyond your dreams. Can you feel the things I feel, right now, with you? Take my hand, there's a world I need to know.~

You took Antonio up into the treetops, showing him millions of different birds. You smiled, watching birds flutter around and land on the both of you. Antonio spoke softly in Spanish, as he petted and examined the birds. He caught you staring and smiled brightly at you.

Later, when the sun fell, you went out to teach Antonio how to swing from vines. He asked for it, but now he seemed to be having second thoughts. You smiled and hopped off the branch, pulling him along with you. You let go of him and he swung around a bit, before beginning to get the hang of it. You smiled, as Antonio swung next to you and grabbed a hold of his vine.

He grabbed your vine and pulled you closer to him. You blushed and looked down a bit, before you looked up again to find him looking down at you affectionately. He cupped your face with one hand and quickly pecked your forehead. Your blush deepened, as he smiled sheepishly.

"Let's head back to the camp, okay?"
Here's an uber long chapter for you guys.
