Chapter 4 – Pleading Friends

“I will show you to your room.” You heard a hint of guilt, as you looked to him surprised.

“My room?” You looked around the cell. “But I thought-“

“You want to stay in the tower?” He asked, now a bit harsher.

“No.”

“Then follow me.” He led the way, you lagging behind a bit. You examined the hideous sculptures on the walls and the light casting shadows on them. You walked a little faster, a bit frightened by the statues. The beast looked back and hesitated.

“I... um... hope you like it here. My name is Ludwig, by the way…” He seemed to hesitate and you heard a slight whispering. Ludwig? Wasn’t that Germany’s name? Could this be-? You blushed. There was no way this was him. “The castle is your home now, so you can go anywhere you wish, except the West Wing.”

“What's in the West Wing?” You asked, now intrigued.

“It is forbidden!” He stopped in his tracks, yelling it in anger. He continues and you reluctantly follow. He stops at a door and opens it, filling the room with light.

“Now, if there is anything you need, my servants will attend you.” He said, with a bit of tenderness in his voice. He paused, again, before his face became angry. “You...will join me for dinner.  That is not a request!”

He left, slamming the door behind him. A bit startled, you finally break down. You fling yourself onto the bed and let a few tears loose. You weren’t even here for a day and all this happened… You knew the story well enough to guess what would happen next, but you weren’t sure how you were going to fall in love with someone like this Ludwig. It would truly take a miracle.

~

You had found a book in the room and decided to might as well read it. So, you spent about an hour of reading before you hear a clinking sound against your door. Almost like a knock. You get up and walk over, opening the door.

“Who is it?” A cart came whooshing in, with a tea set firmly set on it.

“Ms. Herdervary, dear, but you can just call me Elizabeta.” You noticed the one speaking was the teapot and was astounded to hear the accent and the name. That defiantly confirmed your thoughts. “I thought you might like a spot of tea.”

“But you... ah... but...I-“ You walk back, bumping into a wardrobe.

“Whoa! Careful!” This was more of a Russian accent and you sat on the bed trying to process these characters.

“This is impossible-“

“I know it is, but here we are!” She sounded and, now that you looked closer, looked a bit like Ukraine. This was really amazing you, meeting all these characters at once.

“I told ya she was pretty, didn't I? And no one listened to me!” A little teacup shouted excitedly, in a British accent, as sugar and cream are poured into him.

“All right, now, Peter. That will do.” Peter, Sealand obviously, hopped over to you, smiling brightly.

“Thank you.” You smiled, picking up Sealand.

“Wanna see me do a trick?!” He takes a deep breath before puffing out his cheeks and blowing bubbles out the top of the cup.

“Peter!” Elizabeta scolded.

“Oops, sorry…” He looked away guiltily, but hid a small mischievous grin.

“That was a very brave thing you did, my dear.” Elizabeta praised you.

“We all think so.” Ukraine agreed.

“But I've lost my father, my dreams, everything.” You sighed, laying back.

“Cheer up.  It will turn out all right in the end.  You will see.” Elizabeta reassures, before gasping. “Look at me, jabbering on, when there is a supper to get on the table. Peter!”

“Bye!” Peter hopped back onto the cart, which wheeled them away. You stood up and Ukraine approached you.

“Well now, what shall we dress you in for dinner? Let us see what I have in my drawers. How embarrassing. Here we are.” She shooed some moths away, before pulling out a pink dress. “Ah! There, you'll look ravishing in this one!”

“That's very kind of you, but I'm not going to dinner.” You admitted.

“Oh, but you must!” She sounded nervous. Suddenly, a clock walked in, with the strangest and biggest eyebrows. You had to bite your lip from laughing.

“Ahem.  Dinner... is served.” He announced, in his own British accent. This was defiantly England or Arthur. You hated to give him the bad news.

~

Minutes after your refusal, you heard loud stomps on the stairs, before a banging on your door.

“I thought I told you to come down to dinner!” You heard the angered roars of Ludwig, but you weren’t about to give in.

“I'm not hungry.” You replied.

“You will come out or I will... I will break down the door!”

“Mon ami, I could be wrong, but that may not be the best way to win the girl's affections.” A French accented voice interrupted.

“Please! Attempt to be a gentleman.” You heard Arthur plead.

“But she is being so… difficult!” Ludwig retorted his anger growing.

“Gently, gently.” Elizabeta calmed him down.

“Will you come down to dinner?” Ludwig asked, sounding dejected. You had to hold strong.

“No!” You heard a frustrated sigh.

“It would give me great pleasure if you would join me for dinner.” He asked, a bit more formal this time. “... Please.”

“No, thank you.”

“You cannot stay in there forever!” He replied, completely furious.

“Yes I can!” You continued to provoke him.

“Fine!  Then go ahead and STARVE!!!!” He talked to the others. “If she does not eat with me, then she does not eat at all!”

“Why Ludwig is not so bad once you get to know him. Why don't you give him a chance?” Ukraine almost pleaded, as you heard a slamming door in the background.

“I don't want to get to know him. I don't want to have anything to do with him!” You answered, still a bit worried about his threat.
Well, tomorrow is Halloween, so I might as well submit a fic about a beast.
