Chapter 5 - Gold
“What is it?” Arthur asked, as you stepped back from him. The sound of drums was ringing in the distance.
“I hear drums. That must mean trouble. I shouldn’t be here.” You said, pushing past him, but you didn’t get too far before he caught your arm.
“I want to see you again.” He stated, determination flickering in his eyes.
“I don’t think I can...” You quickly said, trying to pull away from him. Instead, he pulled you over, blocking your path from leaving.
“Please, don’t leave.” He looked at you with a begging expression and began to lean into you once more. As much as you wanted to stay, you knew you had to go.
“I’m sorry. I have to go.” You whispered loud enough for him to hear and pushed past him, running into the forest.

“___! You should be inside the village.” You turned to see your father and adjusted your bag of corn.
“We’ll be all right.” You reassured, gesturing to you and Jxk.
“We’re gathering food for when the warriors arrive.” Jxk perked up, holding up an ear of corn.
“Don’t go far. Now is not the time to be running off.” Your father warned, but sighed.
“Yes, father.” You rolled your eyes and turned back to begin harvesting more corn.
“When I see you wear that necklace, you look just like your mother.” Your dad remarked. You paused in your work to think of something to say.
“I miss her…” You finally answer.
“But she is still with us. Whenever the wind blows through the trees, I feel her presence. Our people looked to her for wisdom and strength. Someday, they will look to you as well.” He smiled and you smiled a little back, as you grabbed another ear of corn.
“I would be honored by that.” You softly said, looking over your progress.
“You shouldn’t be out here alone. I’ll send for Ralph.” He said, leaving.
“All right, what is it?” Jxk asked, smirking a little.
“What?!” You asked, clearly showing your nervousness.
“You’re hiding something and I have a feeling about what it is.” She chuckled, as you huffed.
‘I’m not hiding anything.” You grumbled.
“___, you can tell me, I promise I won’t tell anyone —“ She got interrupted, by Arthur tumbling out of one of the rows of corn.
“Welp… That answered my question.” She said, turning back to the stalks, acting as if nothing happened.
“What are you doing here?” You snapped, looking around, as he got up.
“Now, I can only imagine what you two have been doing together.” Jxk’s comment caused you and Arthur to blush lightly, but you both ignored it.
“I had to see you again.” Arthur said, taking a step towards you.
“___!” You heard Ralph’s voice and you began to panic.
“Please, don’t say anything.” You looked at Jxk, who merely gave you a thumbs-up and then shooed you away. “Quick, this way.”
You took Arthur’s hand and quickly began to lead him through the crops.

“This place is incredible! And to think, we came all this way just to dig it up for gold.” Arthur said, leaning back in the boat as you hesitantly rowed to yours and Alfred’s secret glen.
“Gold?” You saw Alfred peek over the side of the branch from the tree he was sitting on, but scowled a little when he saw Arthur.
“Hey, Alfred.” Arthur greeted, trying to act friendly.
“Hey… So, what’s gold?” Alfred asked, as he slid down the trunk of a tree.
“You know, it’s… It’s yellow, comes out of the ground, it’s really valuable.” Arthur said, having difficulty in describing it.
“Oh, here, we have lots of it.” Alfred walked over to the canoe and took out one of the ears of corn, peeling away the husk to reveal the corn. “Gold.”
“No… Gold is this.” Arthhur said, pulling out a gold coin and tossed it over to Alfred, who caught it and began to examine it.
“Hmm, there’s nothing like that around here…” Alfred mumbled.
“No gold?” Arthur asked, a grin growing on his face.
‘Not that I’ve seen.” Alfred flipped the coin back to Arthur who caught it.
“All this way for nothing. Those boys are in for a big surprise.” Arthur laughed.
“Will they leave?” You asked.
“Some of them might.” Arthur answered.
“Will you go home?” Arthur hesitated a moment, before answering.
“Well, it’s not like I have much of a home to go back to. A lot of problems are going on back there, but I have a more important situation down here…” He trailed off, not meeting your or Alfred’s eyes.
“What do you mean situation?” You asked.
“Well… it’s sort of hard to explain and believe.” He looked at you and you gave a nod for him to continue. He sighed. “I should cover first that I’m the personification of a landmass or England as you may have heard. When I heard about a new land, I thought maybe I should claim some of it, but I had two problems. One, a country named Finland told me about how this land is already claimed, by a country called America.”
You saw Alfred visibly stiffen and he shrunk down a little, looking away from the both of you.
“But the real problem is my rival, France, is also after him. Whoever finds him first claims this land and its people. Before it was just a competition with that frog, but now that I met the both of you…” He looked up a fierce determination in his eyes. “I can’t let him take this land, no one knows what he would do with it and I don’t want either of you hurt.”
“Arthur… I-“
“Artie! Artie! Where are ya, mate?” You all looked over to see a completely red-headed and ginger guy walking over. Both seemed familiar.
“We can’t let them see us.” Arthur said quickly, slightly glaring at the two new comers.
“Quick, over here.” Alfred whispered, pulling away some branches into a covered area. You both quickly followed through and listened.
“What is it?” Arthur asked, as you stepped back from him. The sound of drums was ringing in the distance.

The joyous screams and laughter practically exploded as soon as the dirty-blond haired Brit opened up his car door, stepping out slowly. He slipped his black-tinted sunglasses on and stuffed his hands into his short’s pockets. The sun beat down on his fair skin and the cool breeze tugged on his shirt gently. Taking careful steps towards the beach, he cast his emerald green gaze about; taking in the great blue sea that stretched beyond.
Making his way towards a relatively uncrowded part of the beach, he stopped and stood s

Your land was in ruins, people were screaming and running around pointlessly, flames had swallowed many houses, including your most of your friend's. You heard children crying, women begging for mercy, but you could not help. You had already tried your best and brought most of the homeless children and women to your orphanage, but there was too much needed to be save, and you alone could not lend a helping hand to all. You blamed yourself for being weak, and prayed to God silently, hoping those pirates raiding your land would leave as soon as possible.
