Chapter 5 - Changes

“Looks like we should head to bed.” You said, glancing at the clock. Half of the guys groaned, as the other half got up and headed upstairs.

“Wait! Hold on there. The princess will sleep in one of our beds upstairs.” Roderich proclaimed, folding his arms.

“But... Where will they sleep?” You asked. You really didn’t want to be a burden.

“Whoever it is will be quite comfortable down here, I’m sure.” Roderich tried to reassure.

“Then how about you offer up your bed?” Lovino folded his arms. Roderich stuttered for a moment, trying to think of a comeback.

“I was hoping someone would volunteer and we could switch every night-“

“Ooh! Ooh! You can sleep in my bed tonight, bella!” Feliciano cheered. You smiled a little.

“Well, if you insist. Good night, Feli.” You hesitated a moment. “You're sure you'll be comfortable?”

“Si, I’ll be fine!” Feliciano smiled once more, before lying back on the empty couch and cuddling up to it. You shook your head and leaned down to kiss his forehead.

“Well, pleasant dreams.” After that, you walked up the stairs, as the other six finished cleaning up their own stuff.

You couldn’t really sleep, as you stared at the ceiling. You felt the calm snores and breathing of the others, as your mind began to wonder. Was this still all a dream? Or was this reality? If so, you were pretty sure you were in a different world.

You glanced over to the cot with Jxk.

If Jxk was here it couldn’t be a different world… right?

You sat up in your cot and stood up, feeling the cold, wood floor underneath you. You decided you needed some fresh air, before trying to get back to sleep. You tiptoed down the stairs and quietly walked past Feliciano, as you slowly opened the door to outside. A cold breeze hit you, as you stepped out closing the door behind you.

You took a couple calm breaths, as you let the cool wind hit you. You were relaxed for a moment, until you heard a twig crack. You jumped and snapped your head over to the noise, very alarmed now. You weren’t prepared to see a sheepish Matthew come out of the bushes.

“Matthew?!” You exclaimed in a hushed voice. He motioned for you to stay quiet, as he walked over.

“I came to check on you, I heard word from your castle that the princess AND queen are missing. I was hoping she hadn’t got to you, yet.” He paused for a moment, as a blush began to appear on his cheeks. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, just nervous I guess…” You admitted, rubbing your arm unconsciously. “I haven’t been able to sleep.”

“That can’t be good…” He seemed to ponder over something, before his features brightened. “I got it, here, come with me.”

“Where are we going?” You asked, as he took your hand and led you through the thicket. Admittedly, the forest was a bit scarier at night then it was at day. You tried to keep close to him as he pushed through more of the brush. He suddenly stopped and looked back to you.

“This is where we’re going.” He pushed away the bushes to reveal a little pond that had fireflies dancing over it. It wasn’t a tropical paradise, but it was calm and a bit romantic in some cases. Matthew looked a bit nervous, as he glanced over and then back to you. “Do you like it?”

“Of course I do.” You smiled and went to hug him. You could feel the heat radiating off his face, as he held you back. You both pulled away, as he smiled back to you. He took your hand in his, again.

“We’ll walk and talk around a bit, but we shouldn’t stay up too late. You need some sleep.” With that he began to lead you through this secret glen, as the time began to pass by the both of you like nothing.

The next morning came quicker than you expected and the seven others were up and ready for work. Of course you made them a quick breakfast, but you defiantly planned on getting a little sleep while they were gone. The rest were already heading out, as Roderich and Jxk stayed back to warn you.

“Now, don't forget, my dear. The old queen's a sly one.” Roderich began to say, caution in every word. “Full of witchcraft. So beware of strangers.”

“Don't worry. I'll be all right.” You smiled, trying to make him not worry too much about you. “See you tonight.”

“Still be careful, alright? ‘Cause if anything would happen to you, then we would lose the only good cook we’ve had in a while.” You scowled a little at Jxk as she laughed. “Just kidding, just don’t do anything stupid, alright?”

“No promises, now bye.” You ushered the two out with the rest. They began to head off and you waved goodbye, until you noticed someone leaning on the side of the house. You looked over, surprised, to see Lovino. “Lovino?”

“Now, I’m warning you. Don't let anybody or anything in the house.” He warned stiffly, looking away from you.

“Why, Lovino, you do care.” He quickly huffed at your response and stormed off to catch up with the others. You chuckled and waved. “Good-bye, Lovino!”
