Chapter 8 – Your Hero
You were going to go with Alfred to go obtain some cattle from this one jerk (Geryon), but you told him you had other plans. You didn’t really, but you were kinda called to go talk with the devil himself. You made it up the mountain side and saw shards of ice flying through the air. They imbedded themselves into targets on the wall.
“Nice shooting.” You muttered as you entered. Ivan merely ignored you and scowled in annoyance.
“I cannot believe this boy! I throw everything I have at him. And it does not even-“ He yelled in frustration, causing the whole area to have a small earthquake.
“Looks like your game's over. Alfred is hitting every curve you throw at him.” You chuckle, folding your arms. He was about snap, but he paused for a moment, before smiling cruelly.
“Hm… I wonder if maybe I have not been throwing the right curves at him. ___...” You felt his icy hand on your shoulder and quickly jumped away.
“Don't even go there!” You snapped.
“See, he must have a weakness, because everybody has a weakness. Pandora, it was the box, Achilles, it was the heel. We simply need to find out his.” Ivan explained calmly.
“I've done my part, getting rid of your pests and doing your errands. Get Lithuania, Esto-“
“They couldn't handle him as a baby. I need someone who can... handle him as a man.” He smirked at the end of his sentence and you looked away blushing.
“I would never man-handle him like that....” You mumbled.
“Oh? But I think you will like this idea. You give me the key to bringing down the son of Zeus and I’ll give you something to die for.” You looked at him confused, until he brushed your hair behind your ear and whispered. “Your freedom…”
… Crap…

“Hey! Where is he?!”
“There he goes! On the veranda!” Gilbert shouted, pointing outside. The crowds of fangirls run outside in desperate search for Alfred. Gilbert shut the doors, to keep them from getting inside, as he led them on a wild goose chase. You had slipped inside during the chaos and looked around for Alfred. You walked around, until you saw a pair of sneakers sticking out from underneath a curtain. You knew only one person who would wear those.
“Let's see, what could be behind curtain number one?” You pulled aside the curtain, scaring the daylights out of Alfred.
“___!” He blushed slightly, covering up his torn-up shirt, which revealed some of his chest since it was destroyed. Actually, most of the clothes he was wearing were torn-up. Those are some gruesome fangirls.
“It's all right. The wave of fangirls are gone.” You assured. He sighed in relief, before giving you a bright smile.
“It’s great to see you. It was kinda boring without you on that job.” He walked over to his lion skin, taking off his shirt and draping the lion skin over him instead.
“So, this is what you do while I’m away, hero?” You asked, sitting down on one of the couches.
“I’m no hero...” He sighed, sitting down next to you.
“Sure you are. Everyone around here seems to think so. I mean, dude, you’ve done things that no normal human being has done before. That has to count to something.: You reassured.
“I know. It's crazy you know, I can't go anywhere without being mobbed, I mean… That never happened before…” He chuckled slightly. “C-could I tell you something, ___?”
“Yeah, sure. Go ahead.” You felt your heart skip a beat, wondering what he was going to tell you… But why would your heart skip a beat for that?
“Alright… This is gonna sound crazy… But you know the country of Greece?” You nodded slowly, seeing where this was going. “Well, he’s sort of personified and so am I. My country is way across the sea though… I’m America… I probably sound crazy, don’t I?”
“… So, that makes Zeus, England, right?” He paused, looking at you surprised, before laughing and hugging you.
“Wow! Strong, pretty, and smart in and off battle!” If being up against his bare chest didn’t make you blush, his sentence sure did. “Hey, we have the whole rest of the day off. Want to go hangout for the rest of this afternoon?”
“You know what? Yeah, let’s go.”
~
“Wow. What a day. First that restaurant by the bay, and then that play, that Oedipus thing. Man! I thought I had problems.” You both chuckled, as two birds flit around the both of you. “I didn't know taking a break from battling could be so much fun.”
“Yeah. Neither did I.” You murmur. You weren’t exactly comfortable, you knew Ivan was watching.
“Thanks, ___.”
“Oh… Don't thank me just yet. Oh!” Your foot caught on a step, causing you to fall, but Alfred quickly caught you. Didn’t this already happen before?
“Careful.” He chuckled.
“I need to learn how to use my legs. I keep falling all over you.” You blushed, embarrassed.
“I don’t mind. Well, maybe you better sit down for a while.” He carries you over to a bench and sits you down, before sitting next to you.
“I always end up getting hurt in our battles, but you come out without a scratch. How do you do it?” You ask.
“I don’t know. I’m just lucky, I guess. I’m strong, obviously, smart enough to know what to do, and brave enough to do it. I guess I just have the basic instincts of a hero.” He chuckled, standing up.
“You don’t even have one weakness?”
“Nope!” He flashed you a smile.
“You must just be perfect then.” You smiled, thanking the gods on the inside,
“Thanks.” He pulled out a coin and skipped it over the water in a fountain. He was too strong though and accidently broke off the arms of a statue, depicting a goddess. One you examined her closer, you recognized Hungary. What goddess could she be? “Whoops…”

You were the next one. You were sure of it. Flavio was bouncing around you girls like some kind of herding dog, but instead of bringing you lost ones together he separated you from each other. And you just happened to stand out from the group in his eyes. Soon you were standing in front of the top hat and staring at it emotionlessly. Flavio noticed your unenthusiastic behavior and raised the hat right in front of your face.
"Come on bellezza! Take something from the hat and go to the closet with your loved one!"
"Don't be ridiculous. I have no loved one here. You know it very well Flavio." you said and looked at Italian with a dull eyes. Fl
